Greetings!
I'm Effie, I'm a former New Yorker and 9-5iver turned virtual solopreneur living in Athens, Greece.

I was sick of the rat race in NY and decided in 2007 that I was not only leaving NY, but I was leaving the United States.
I've been living abroad for roughly 17 years and midway along this timeline, I took the plunge—quit my "secure" job, and started taking gigs as a virtual assistant.

Of the best decisions I've ever made.
My Story
In May of 2015, I quit everything I knew to be familiar to me while living in Cyprus because it simply was not serving me anymore. It seemed to happen in one swift move.
One day, I was just done. Done with my long-term stagnant relationship, fed up with my dead-end job, and tired of a life I set on autopilot.

“I will literally start from scratch” I proclaimed in defiance. And I did. I just didn’t think starting over would last longer than it did. Three years into my “freedom from my own life” my funds were depleted.
I was, by definition, a wantrepreneur with no clients, surviving off my US credit cards, behind on rent for three months, and living alone in a foreign country I had no business being in anymore.
Wondering wtf I was going to do; I was too ashamed to return to NY and admit defeat.
I reached out to my last lifeline, borrowed money, and packed two suitcases thinking: "Take only what you need to survive." -Lone Starr, Spaceballs
I prepped my two canine companions for their first flight ever, burned my bridges, boarded a plane to leave Cyprus after 12 years, and flew to Athens, Greece - the original final destination.

Since my time in Greece - almost 6 years - I’ve gotten my shit together.
I have zero credit card debt, paid off my lifeline debt, and upgraded my living standard- I no longer live like a university student, sleeping on an air mattress, nearing a hypothermic death in a non-heated apartment, while surviving off of ramen noodles for lunch and dinner.

I picked up resilience skills from hard life lessons along the way.
From good, great, bad, and ugly personal and professional experiences, these are the things I've come to understand to be certain:
Mental growth never ends and life is always in session.
